My square pattern for the Tunisian Blanket Crochetalong 2021
I am very happy to present my design for the Tunisian Blanket CAL 2021.
The Crochetalong is organized by Arunima Goel aka KnitterKnotter.
You can find all details here: https://knitterknotter.com/tunisian-blanket-cal-2021-announcement/
This pattern is also available as free download on Ravelry.
I designed a stitch pattern for my square that is very versatile. It is stretchy, you can work it in one or two colors and when you block it, it reveals a lovely lace pattern.
Why is it called "Entwined Triangles"?
The stitch pattern shows twisted vertical lines in the foreground and a triangle grid pattern in the background.
You'll need for one square, approx. 30 x 30 cm / 12 x 12 in:
Materials
- approx. 120 m / 131 yds worsted weight yarn
I used Rowan Pure Wool Superwash Worsted (100% wool, 200 m (219 yds) / 100 g),
col. 133 Gold und 144 Mallard.
- a Tunisian crochet hook, size 8 mm (US L/11, UK 0), 30 cm / 12 in lenght or with cable
Abbreviations
ch - chain
st(s) - stitch(es)
YO - yarn over
RetP - Return pass
TKS - Tunisian Knit Stitch
ES - edge stitch, insert hook under both strands of yarn
Gauge
14 stitches x 13 rows = 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4 in, unblocked in pattern stitch
This stitch pattern is a combination of the Tunisian Knit Stitch and the Tunisian Lattice Stitch.
It requires a multiple of 4 stitches plus 2 edge stitches.
Pattern
Foundation row:
Chain 42. Pick up a loop in the back bump of second ch from hook and each ch across.
(42 sts on hook).
Return pass:
All return passes are worked as following: Ch 1, * YO and pull through 2 loops on hook, repeat from * until one loop remains on the hook.
Row 1:
Work 2 TKS (yellow).
Work the next 2 sts (red) together as Lattice-Stitch:
Insert hook from right to left under the vertical bars of the next two stitches, YO and pull up a loop.
Insert hook under the first vertical bar (red) again, YO and pull up a loop.
The second photo shows the finished Lattice-Stitch. The sts are crossed and 2 loops are on the hook again.
Work 2 TKS and 2 sts toghether as Lattice-Stitch alternatingly to end of row (10 times), ES. (42 sts),
RetP.
Row 2:
Work the first 2 sts as Lattice-Stitch (red) and the next 2 sts as TKS.
Repeat to end of row. (42 sts), RetP.
Repeat rows 1 and 2, 17 more times.
18 repeats = 36 rows in total.
Final row:
Bind off patternwise with single crochet stitches.
First st in the previous row was a Lattice-Stitch (red), so the first 2 sts are bound off as TKS (yellow).
Step 1:
Insert hook as for TKS in the first st, YO and pull up a loop (2 sts on hook).
YO and pull through both loops on hook. First st is bound off.
Repeat for next st.
Step 2:
Work next 2 sts together, YO and pull up a loop. YO again and pull through both loops.
Insert hook in first sts again (red), YO and pull up a loop.
YO again and pull through both loops.
Repeat from step 1 to end of row.
Finishing:
Sew in ends.
The fabric stretches a lot when washed. For the blanket, just let it dry flat so it can shrink again.
For a more openwork stitch pattern, block your project to desired measurements.
Unblocked and blocked square. Both squares have the same number of stitches.
Changing colors
When you are working with two colors, change yarns at the beginning of every row. Work return pass until two loops are left on the hook. With new color, close last stitch.
